Visakhapatnam: The long-cherished dream of Andhra Pradesh residents for a dedicated South Coast Railway Zone is set to take shape as the Railway Department initiates the tender process for its headquarters construction in Visakhapatnam. The project includes building the General Manager’s office complex, designed as B1+B2+G+9 (two basements, ground floor, and nine floors).

The Rs. 149-crore project, slated for completion within 24 months, marks a significant step in fulfilling the 2019 announcement by the Central Government. A pre-bid conference is scheduled for December 2 at 11 AM, with bids open from December 13 to 27. Prospective bidders must deposit Rs. 76 lakh as Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) and submit tenders electronically, including joint ventures.

The zonal office will be built on a 10-acre site at Mudasarlova, part of the railway’s 52-acre land parcel in Visakhapatnam. This progress comes after significant delays under the previous state government in handing over the land to railways, slowing project implementation.

Although the foundation stone for the railway zone is not included in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Visakhapatnam visit on November 29, officials suggest a separate ceremony will be held soon.
