The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) called for a protest against the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Notably, the N. Chandrababu Naidu led TDP engaged in a war of words over the past few months, got into action, after the TDP raised their voices against several issues under the YSRCP Government.

Of the major issues, the TDP raised concerns over the failure of the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led Government in land disputes in Visakhapatnam, unemployment issues and illegal constructions in Rushikonda.  In addition, the opposition in Andhra Pradesh, the TDP also urged all the citizens of Visakhapatnam to participate in the protest.  However, the Visakhapatnam Police issued a notice and denied permission to hold rallies and protests, citing section 30 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in effect in Visakhapatnam.  They also house arrested some senior leaders of the TDP to prevent them from protests, called on the 28th of October, Friday.  Mr, Buddha Venkanna, the TDP North Andhra in charge has also been stopped from visiting Visakhapatnam for the protest.  Mr. Buddha Venkanna said, “The policemen tagged along with me when I went to the TDP office on Thursday evening. They warned me not to venture out of my house on Friday.”  He further added, ““The YSRCP government is hell-bent on stifling the dissenting voices. In a democracy, citizens have the right to protest. It is guaranteed in the Constitution.”

Mr. Velagapudi Ramakrishnababu, the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Visakha East Constituency, Mr. Palla Srinivas, Mr. Bandaru Satyanarayana and other leaders are under house arrest.  Furthermore, a team of police has been deployed at the TDP office in Visakhapatnam to stop TDP leaders from holding a protest.

Reacting to the house arrest, the TDP alleged that the attitude of the police is not proper and they are acting on the orders of the YSRCP Government.  The TDP said, the YSRCP is using such valuable human resource for  forced detention, which is illegal.

The YSRCP Government is yet to respond to the house arrest and protest called by the TDP leaders.
