On the 1st of January, Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) along with his wife, Bhuvaneswari Naidu, visited a few Amaravati villages to support the protesting farmers.

N. Bhuvaneswari donated her gold bangles for the ‘Save Amaravati’ movement started by the farmers in 29 villages of Amaravati.  N. Bhuvaneswari gave the bangles for auction so the farmers could raise money for the protest and the Save Amaravati movement. The farmers are protesting against the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) for proposing 3 State capitals.

The farmers demanded the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP Government withdraw its proposal of having 3 State capitals and develop Amaravati as the sole capital.  The major reason behind the farmers’ protest is they gave their lands to the previous Government for the development of Amaravati as the State’s capital.

Bhuvaneswari Naidu said, “Chandrababu made continuous efforts to bring Andhra Pradesh to the number one position. He has always given preference to people than the family.  He does not even care about his health and always keeps thinking about Amaravati and Polavaram.”

On the other hand, Chandrababu Naidu asked the State Government why the YSRCP did not stand by its words of developing Amaravati as Andhra Pradesh’s capital.

Mr. Naidu said, “I tried my best to develop the state as well as Hyderabad. The YSRCP is propagating that Amaravati is being built for a single caste.  Is the development of Hyderabad for any social group?” He further added, “The chief minister is playing a mind game with me. We have not done anything wrong.   Amaravati is a self financing project. We have acquired over 55 thousand acres without a single litigation. He is working from Amravati for the past seven months.  Is the CM ashamed of the farmers asking for compassionate deaths? Is there any state that has three capitals? YSRCP leaders are planning to loot Visakhapatnam. Are farmers who fight for the capital paid artists?”

Besides, the Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi (Amaravati Farmers’ Protection Committee) filed a petition against the same in the A.P., High Court.

The agitation against the YSRCP for proposing 3 capitals entered its 15th day on the 1st of January, 2020, in all the 29 villages of Amaravati.

The protest is expected to continue until the YSRCP Government withdraws its proposal of having 3 State capitals.  Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy proposed Kurnool, Amaravati and Visakhapatnam be made the capital cities of A.P.

However, an official announcement regarding the capital of Andhra Pradesh is yet to be made.

Stay tuned for further updates.
