On the 27th of April, Wednesday, the Telugu Desam Party Women Wing staged a protest outside the Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission office in Mangalagiri.

The protest amid the notice issued to the TDP National President Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu and other leaders created a tense atmosphere in the region.  It is to be noted that TDP chief Chandrababu and senior party leader Bonda Uma were issued notices by Women’s Commission Chairperson Ms. Vasireddy Padma for insulting her in the Vijayawada government hospital.  The matter is pending with the court and they are due to appear before the Andhra Pradesh High Court today, the 27th of April.

However, the TDP clarified that the Women’s Commission does not have the power to issue notices while former TDP Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mr. Bonda Uma denied appearing before the court.

Meanwhile, amid the protest and to control the situation, the Andhra Pradesh police department deployed hundreds of policemen. The officials are deployed to prevent the Telugu Desam Party women leaders from entering the office.

With this, Telugu women staged a protest at the commission office under the auspices of TDP women state president Ms. Vangalapudi Anita.  Besides the TDP Women Wing, the family members of the Vijayawada rape victim also took part in the protest, staged against the A.P., Women’s Commission.

During the protest, the TDP Women Wing President questioned how many of the incidents did government acted tough and what actions the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government took for women’s safety.  The women said they had the right to complain to the commission and raised questions and disappointment over the negligence in the rape case at the State-run hospital.

Recently, a mentally ill woman was allegedly raped by the staff of a hospital in Vijayawada. The incident created a ruckus, following which, Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh directed a probe.  He also announced an ex gratia of Rs. 10 lakh to the family of the Vijayawada rape victim.
