As many as thirty five Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders joined the opposition Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 26th of June, Monday.
The major switch of party in Telangana came as a major drawback for the ruling government, especially at a time when the Telugu State is set to conduct the State Assembly elections. The leaders who resigned from the BRS and joined the Indian National Congress including Ponguleti Srinivas Redd, Jupally Krishna Rao, Gurnath Reddy, Koram Kanakaiah, Venkateshwarlu, Muvament Vijaya Baby, Thulluri Bramhaiah, Pidamarthi Ravi, Borra Rajshekhar Warya, S. Jaipal and other senior BRS leaders.
After the biggest witch, the INC issued an official statement which read, “Winds of change are sweeping through Telangana. In a big boost to the Congress party’s prospects, more and more people are aligning with us to take the message of love and prosperity forward.” The statement further read, “Today, senior leaders from Telangana joined the Congress party in the presence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, General Secy (Org.) K C Venugopal, AICC Telangana Incharge Manikrao Thakre, Telangana PCC President Vevanth Reddy and other senior leaders at AICC HQ, New Delhi (sic.)”
Mr. Pawan Khera, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) leader, said this wind of change is a result of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, launched by Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the INC.
Meanwhile, the leaders who have decided to join the Congress are likely to hold a grand public meeting in the first week of July, in Khammam, Telangana.
