The protest of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT) students ended on the 21st of June, Tuesday.

According to sources, the protest ended after the Education Minister Ms. Sabitha Indra Reddy assured that the demands of the students would be considered and the Telangana Education Department would soon solve the problems in a phased manner.  Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman visited the IIIT Basara campus and was accompanied by Nirmal district collector Mr. Musharraf Ali Farooqi, the IIIT Basara Incharge Vice Chancellor Mr. Rahul Bojja, the Telangana State Higher Education Council Vice Chairman Mr. Venkat Ramna, IIIT Basara Director Mr. Satish Kumar, the Education Commissioner Mr. Vakati Karuna, the superintendent of police Mr. Praveen Kumar and local MLA Mr. Vithal Reddy. 

The minister first held talks with the officials, who briefed her on the students’ demands, following which she interacted with the protesting students’ leader and a 20 member Students’ Governing Council body and assured action.  Meanwhile, after the fruitful meeting, the Nirmal District Collector said to release Rs. 5.6 crores for the IIIT Basara institution. 

Notably, the students of the RGUKT were protesting against the college administration since the past one week, from the 14th of June to the 20th of June.  The RGUKT students also known as IIIT Basara students, carried out a protest at the main gate of the IIIT Basara, against the poor quality food, water and lack of basic amenities in the premises.   In total, the students put forward a list of 12 demands, including the appointment of a permanent vice-chancellor at the RGUKT, Telangana.  

Meanwhile, after the students called off the week long protest, they resumed their classes on Tuesday.
