The Andhra Pradesh Government on the 1st of October, inaugurated the renovated museum of Mahatma Gandhi in Vijayawada.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, inaugurated the historic Bapu Museum.

The museum was damaged in the past few years and was renovated under the rule of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP.)

Initially, the renovated museum was proposed to be inaugurated before the 31st of December 2018.

However, due to the pending work the deadline was later shifted to 5th of March 2019.

In March 2019, due to the imposed Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the 2019 Assembly elections, the inauguration was postponed.

The renovation of the historic Bapu Museum was worth Rs. 8 crores.

The museum has nearly 1,500 antiques and would open from the 2nd of October, the birth anniversary of Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi or Bapu.

On the occasion of the Gandhi Jayanti 2020, the State Government would also inaugurate the latest technology, which will be made available for the visitors to know about the details of the old antiques.

In addition, a special application has also been designed to view the details of the antiques on mobiles.

In the museum the authorities also added old items, artifacts, clothing and cooking utensils from ancient man to modern 19th century man.

The Andhra Pradesh Government also included a project with the theme ‘Glories of Andhra,’ to educate the younger generations on the importance of culture and heritage of the State.
