Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, who was scheduled to visit Srisailam cancelled his trip.

Mr.Jagan Mohan Reddy was scheduled to visit Srisailam on the 21st of August, but cancelled due to a massive fire.

On the night of the 20th of August, a massive fire broke out at the Srisailam Left Bank underground hydroelectric power station.

The reason behind the massive fire is expected to be due to a short circuit after water flow and flood like situation due to heavy rainfall in the area.

The Srisailam hydro plant is a joint project of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The Srisailam reservoir has been flooded due to which concerned authorities lifted 10 gates and released water into the lower Nagarjuna Sagar.   CM Jagan was scheduled to visit to review the situation at the project and conduct pujas along with water transfer items for drinking and irrigation needs in the state.

However, after the incident, the CMO issued a notice saying due to the incident, the review meeting would not be possible.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister felt it is ‘inappropriate’ to conduct reviews and other programs under such circumstances.

CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also expressed shock over the fire at the power plant and prayed for the safety of the trapped.

Meanwhile, approximately 30 people were said to be inside the power plant, of which 15 escaped through exits, 6 were rescued by officials and 9 are still feared to be trapped inside.

The rescue operations at the power station are underway under the supervision of the Telangana Energy Minister G. Jagadish Reddy.

Stay tuned for further updates.
