Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) on the 18th of November, launched a toll free number for registering complaints against sand smuggling.
The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) took the step to curb the stealing of sand and sand shortage in Andhra Pradesh.
Since the past few days, Andhra Pradesh’s construction companies and construction labourers are facing unemployment and other issues.
Opposition parties like the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the JanaSena Party targeted the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP, stating the YSRCP is responsible for the shortage. This made the issue a political one.
The toll free number for registering complaints is 14500.
During the launch event, Jagan Mohan Reddy made several suggestions to call centre employees regarding the new toll free number.
Peddi Reddy Ramachandra Reddy, a YSRCP Minister, Nilam Sawhney, the Chief Secretary of AP, Gautam Sawang, the Director General of Police (DGP) and Surendra Babu, the Chief of the Task Force, attended the launch event.
