Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) paid tribute to Police officials who died while performing COVID-19 duty. The homage was paid on the Police Commemoration Day, celebrated on the 21st of October in India.

During the occasion, the Andhra Pradesh CM also announced Rs. 10 lakh compensation to the police families, whose kin/member died on COVID-19 duty. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, handed over cheques of Rs. 10 lakh to 206 families, whose kin died while performing duties during the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The compensation amount was given during an event to mark the Police Martyrs’ Remembrance Day. Organised by the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government, the event was held at Vijayawada Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium.

On the occasion of the Police Martyrs’ Remembrance Day, the police officials who died first received the police salute, following which the political leaders paid their tribute. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, remembered police officials who died while on COVID-19 duty and paid tribute along with a parade.

In addition, from the 21st of October till the 31st of October, events like exhibitions, open houses, visit the houses of police martyrs, debates, essay writing competitions, band shows, medical camps, blood donation camps and review the welfare of police families would be conducted as ‘Rastriya Ekta Diwas for 10 days from. The arrangements of the event were done under the supervision of Mr. Gautam Sawang, the Director General of Police (DGP.)

Ministers like Ms. M. Sucharita, Mr. Anil Kumar Yadav, DGP Gautam Sawang and other leaders were present during the event.

Besides the compensation cheque, the YSRCP Government also approved the police welfare grant, which was pending since 2017. The concerned Government department as per the Andhra Pradesh CM’s orders, released an amount of Rs. 15 crores for the welfare grant. The released amount of Rs. 15 crores would benefit a total of 206 police families in the Telugu State of Andhra Pradesh.
