Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) on the 25th of May, released the YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme amount.

The scheme was launched to benefit farmers, who suffered crop loss in the State during the Kharif season 2020. Under the scheme, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government released an amount of Rs. 1,820.23 crores for 15.5 lakh farmers across A.P.

While releasing the amount of the scheme, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “Earlier this month, we credited Rs. 3,900 crores under the Rythu Bharosa and today as announced, Rs. 1820.23 crores has been credited to 15.15 lakh farmers, who suffered losses during Kharif 2020.”

Beneficiaries for the crop insurance have been displayed at Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs) and social audits are conducted to ensure no eligible person is left out. Jagan Mohan Reddy also said, “Besides clearing the insurance claim arrears of Rs. 715.84 crores for the year 2018-2019 kept pending by the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Government, we have paid Rs. 1,252.18 crores of claims under the YSR Crop Insurance Scheme for the year 2019-2020 and now with the payment of Rs. 1,820.23 crore today for Kharfi 2020, our Government has paid a total crop insurance claim of Rs 3,788.25 crores.”

During the videoconferencing, Jagan Mohan Reddy took a dig at the previous TDP Government for their pending claim arrears. He said, during the TDP reign, there was no transparency, farmers had no idea when the insurance claims would be paid and how much would be paid and to whom. However, the YSRCP Government is different, it not only settled the pending amount left by the TDP, but also the Kharif season claims of 2019 and 2020.

This is not the first time the Andhra Pradesh Government announced welfare schemes and compensations for farmers. The State Government said, 62% of people of A.P., are dependent on the agriculture sector and the YSRCP would provide possible benefits to farmers.

In the past also, the State Government announced several beneficial schemes like the YSR Rythu Bharosa Scheme, the YSR Jala Kala scheme, free power supply to farmers for irrigation and agriculture purposes and many others.
