India’s Tata Steel took one of its kind decisions for the employees who lost their lives due to the Wuhan virus (Novel Coronavirus.) On the 25th of May, the Tata Steel Plant announced a social security scheme for the family members of the COVID-19 affected victims, who were employees at the company.
As per the social security scheme, the company would pay the salary of the deceased employee to his/her family members. The salary would be paid until the employees who lost life due to COVID-19 would have turned 60, if alive.
In regard to this, the company released a statement, which read, “Tata Steel’s best in class social security schemes will help ensure an honourable standard of living for their families, whereby the family will get the last drawn salary till 60 years of age of the deceased employee/nominee.”
The family would also be eligible to avail medical benefits and housing facilities. In addition, if a frontline employee gets infected while on the job and dies, the company would also ensure their children’s education until graduation.
The announcement of the Jamshedpur based steel plant received appreciation for its initiative towards their employees during these tough times. Twitter, Instagram and Facebook users took to their social media handles and praised the company for its efforts. The giant steel plant has been involved in several charitable activities and was appreciated for their efforts.
