YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Reviews COVID-19 Situation, Alerts Officials Amid MPTC/ZPTC Elections

Concerned about the rise in the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy issued an alert.

On the 17th of March, Mr. Reddy reviewed the situation of COVID-19 in A.P., and asked the officials to control the spread. According to the reports, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also directed the officials to ensure all the arrangements for the Mandal Parishad Territorial Council (MPTC) and Zila Parishad Territorial Council (ZPTC) elections following the guidelines of COVID-19. Mr. Reddy said the MPTC/ZPTC election process should be concluded in 6 days, so the vaccination drive could be started. Due to the continuous elections in Andhra Pradesh, it has been difficult to focus on vaccination drive.

The CM further said the officials should prioritise providing vaccination to people above 45 years with comorbidities. He also asked to increase the number of COVID-19 tests in the State and asked officials to emphasise more on curbing the spread of the virus.

In addition, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) also directed the officials to speed up the vaccination process after the ZPTC and the MPTC elections.

The review meeting and directions of Mr. Reddy came after the State reported a rise in single day spike.

In the last few days, Andhra Pradesh has recorded more than 200 single day cases, which is worrying the YSRCP Government. In the past 24 hours, the State reported 253 new cases.

As of now, Andhra Pradesh has 8,92,522 positive cases, of which 7,186 died due to the infection, 1,694 are active cases and 8,83,642 are recovered/discharged cases.
