YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Urges PM Modi To Honour Pingali Venkayya With Bharat Ratna

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, on the 12th of March, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his letter, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy appealed to the Central Government to felicitate Pingali Venkayya, the designer of the National Flag with the Bharat Ratna Award. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s letter came after he himself felicitated Seeta Mahalakshmi, the daughter of the late Pingali Venkayya.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the President of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) toured Macherla, where G. Seeta Mahalakshmi resides. During his visit, Mr. Reddy interacted with Ms. Seeta Mahalakshmi and recalled her father’s effort during the Independence fight.

Pingali Venkaiah’s family members were delighted to see the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Ms. Mahalakshmi’s son G.V.N. Narasimham felt proud and said, “We are happy that the Chief Minister has shown respect to my grandfather. It’s true that Pingali Venkayya never got the recognition he deserved. With the Chief Minister paying a visit to our home to felicitate my mother, we hope the State will know who Pingali Venkayya was.”

Collector Vivek Yadav and Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishal Gunni instructed the officials to make foolproof arrangements for the Chief Minister’s visit to Macherla.

Later, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy left for Vijayawada.
