On the 23rd of May, Monday, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Mr. Anantha Uday Bhaskar Babu, has been remanded for judicial custody.
Notably, Mr. Anantha Uday Bhaskar alias Anantha Babu has been given 14 days of judicial custody in the murder case of his former driver. On the 19th of May, Vedi Subrahmanyam, the former driver of MLC Mr. Anantha Uday Bhaskar was found dead. The family of Vedi Subrahmanyam alleged Anantha Uday Bhaskar of the murder and demanded an investigation and punishment for the leader. Dalit leaders and the opposition, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) also extended support to the victim’s family, criticising the YSRCP Government.
It is to be noted Mr. Anantha Uday Bhaskar confessed his crime to the police. The Kakinada Police gave a statement and shared the confession, quoted by Mr. Anantha Babu. The police said, “The MLC also asked the exdriver to pay him back the Rs. 20,000 he had borrowed from him. Subrahmanyam told Anantha Babu he would clear his debt soon. In the process, a verbal fight took place between the two. Expressing anger, Anantha Babu caught Subrahmanyam by his neck and threw him across a distance. Subrahmanyam fell on a grill. Subrahmanyam again revolted against Anantha Babu and the MLC again raised him and threw him. Then, Subrahmanyam fell on the drainage system and had head injury.”
The MLC rushed his exdriver to the hospital, but he died on his way, following which he created a scene, to make it look like an accident. He even took Subrahmanyam’s body to his family, but they refused to accept it and demanded an investigation. A case was registered against the MLC under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 3(2) (V) of the Scheduled Caste (SC) and the Scheduled Tribe (ST) Atrocities (POA) Act 1989.
The YSRCP MLC has been shifted to Rajahmundry Central Jail, after being produced before Special Magistrate Judge Ms. C. Janaki, who remanded Mr. Anantha Babu till the 6th of June.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bhimarao, the Kakinada Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has been appointed as the investigation officer in the murder case.
