On the 23rd of May, Monday, Mr. Narendra Modi visited Japan, at the invitation of his counterpart and Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Fumio Kishida.
During his two-day visit, Mr. Narendra Modi attended the Quad Summit 2022 and discussed bilateral relations and the Indo-Pacific region. Furthermore, Mr. Narendra Modi also attended an event convened by President Mr. Joe Biden of the United States of America (U.S.A.,) where he launched the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF.)
The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) intends to bind regional countries more closely through common standards in areas including supply-chain resilience, clean energy, infrastructure, and digital trade. Besides the launch of the IPEF, the Quad leaders also discussed the Indo-Pacific region’s challenges like climate change, maritime security, defense, and technologies.
Meanwhile, addressing the leaders at the Quad Summit, Mr. Narendra Modi invited the Indian community in Japan to join and take forward the campaign of “Bharat Chalo, Bharat Se Judo (come to India, join India.)” He addressed 700 members of the Indian diaspora in Tokyo and appreciated the Indian community members for their skill, talent, and entrepreneurship. Invoking Swami Vivekananda and Rabindranath Tagore, Mr. Narendra Modi underlined the deep cultural ties that exist between India and Japan.
Highlighting the various socio-economic developments and reform initiatives taken in India in recent years, he said that these reforms have been taken particularly in the domains of infrastructure, governance, green growth, and the digital revolution.
Mr. Narendra Modi also met the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardees in Japan.
Later, on the 24th of May, Mr. Narendra Modi would meet the Japanese Prime Minister, Mr. Fumio Kishida, to discuss the bilateral relations between India and Japan.
