Y.V. Subba Reddy, the Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD,) on the 17th of November, denied the rumours about the price of the Tirumala laddu being hiked.

Subba Reddy said the TTD Board did not make a decision regarding the hike in the price of the laddus, which is given as the prasadam of Sri Venkateswara Swamy.

Since the 17th of November, social media platforms were flooded with posts stating the TTD plans to increase the price of the Tirumala laddus sold to devotees.

Though the TTD Chairman denied there was a discussion about increasing the price of the laddu, a TTD member, who wished to remain anonymous, said the TTD members spoke about the matter.

The reason the topic was discussed was because the TTD is suffering from losses.  The TTD has an annual loss of Rs. 200-240 crores for providing the laddus at a subsidised rate and also free of cost to the Divya Darshan pilgrims.  The rates of the laddus vary based on the category of devotees.

Y.V. Subba Reddy also cleared the air about the increased rent of rooms given to devotees visiting Tirupati.  Reddy said the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) would not do such a thing to the devotees.

As of now, the YSRCP and the TTD do not plan to increase the price of the Tirumala laddus.

Stay tuned for further updates.
