On Monday, 26 CRPF jawans were killed and seven severely injured in an encounter with Naxalites in Sukma district of Chattisgarh. The encounter that started at 12:25 P.M., took place on Burkapal-Chintagufa road. This area in South Bastar is the worst hit Naxalite area in the State.

The troops are being evacuated from the area for safety, seven members of the troops in this evacuation were severely injured. Additional Superintendent of Police, Jitendra Shukla said, “The incident took place when the road opening party of the 74th battalion of CRPF was out on patrol at Burkapal near Chintagufa. The jawans were deployed for security at an under construction road. The Maoists ambushed CRPF personnel and started indiscriminate firing, leaving eleven jawans dead and seven severely injured, including an inspector,”

The injured, according to reports, are being airlifted to Raipur for treatment. The nearby CRPF jawans have immediately rushed to the site of the encounter to aid the injured jawans. Noticing this incident, the CM of Chattisgarh, Raman Singh has called for an emergency meeting. This is the second such attack in the last month. The first attack in Sukma district claimed 12 CRPF Jawan lives.
