6 Storey Building Collapses in Hyderabad, Death Toll and More Trapped

On Thursday night around 10:30 P.M., a 6 storey building under construction at one of the districts of Hyderabad, Nanakramguda, collapsed. There were 5 families trapped in the fallen debris of which 3 bodies have been pulled out while 2 people (a woman and a child) have been rescued and taken to the hospital. The rest of 10-12 people are still stuck in the labyrinth and the National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) has been called in to help them.

NDRF personnel along with workers of local administration are involved in the rescue operations,” said the deputy mayor Baba Fasiuddin. According to the search and rescue reports and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials, the building caved in due to weak foundations and usage of inefficient construction materials. “The building was poorly constructed and flouted norms in the materials used, hence the collapse,” said Bontha Ram Mohan, Mayor of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

The rescue operations are underway, being supervised by the Telangana ministers N. Narsimha Reddy and P. Padmarao. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishwa Prasad is also involved in the rescue mission. Inquiries have revealed that the building belongs to a Satyanarayana Singh and was in its final stages of completion. The families trapped are those of the tiling and plumbing workers along with the building watchman. Some of the victims are locals but a few hail from Visakhapatnam and Chattisgarh regions.
