Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 23rd of January, appointed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the Secretary General of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in East Uttar Pradesh.
Ms. Vadra, the sister of Rahul Gandhi, would be incharge of the AICC in East Uttar Pradesh, whereas Jyotiraditya Scindia was appointed as the General Secretary of West Uttar Pradesh.
Ms. Gandhi will take over the responsibility from the 1st of February, 2019.
“Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia are powerful leaders. We wanted the young leaders to change Uttar Pradesh politics,” Rahul Gandhi said. He further added, “She is capable and I am happy that she will work with me.”
Apart from Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia, K.C. Venugopal, the AICC General Secretary of Karnataka, also was appointed as the General Secretary of AICC (Organisation.)
The INC congratulated all the political leaders for the appointments and said, the Party is “all fired up and ready to go.”
Peeyush Mishra, the Congress Committee Spokesperson of Uttar Pradesh, said, “We have been demanding this. She has been active. The decision to appoint her in-charge for East UP will be a game changer. We are in a joyous mood and partymen are celebrating this.”
Political leaders such as Sachin Pilot, Ashok Gehlot and Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and congratulated Mr. Venugopal, Ms. Gandhi and Mr. Scindia for their new roles in the AICC.
