Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 1st of July, called for a meeting with all the Chief Ministers (CMs) of the Indian National Congress (INC) ruling states.

The meeting was called to discuss the defeat of the INC in the Lok Sabha elections, 2019 and to finalise the leader of the Party.

After Rahul Gandhi offered his resignation as the Party President, the INC started facing internal issues regarding leadership.

As many as 150 INC members, to honour Rahul Gandhi, extended their resignations across India, whereas the remaining are trying to convince Mr. Gandhi to continue with the post and start afresh.

It is expected, today’s meeting will be fruitful with a clear decision regarding the leader of the INC.

While everyone is convincing Rahul Gandhi to continue as the Party President, Pratap Singh Bajwa appreciated the decision and suggested all the Party members resign from their respective posts.

Bajwa wrote a letter to K.C. Venugopal, the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and gave his suggestion. He said, “It is my firm belief that senior party office-bearers must follow Rahul Gandhi’s lead and resign from their posts. This includes all CWC, all Chief Ministers and state chiefs. Instead, I am asking for fresh leadership, one that brings a renewed sense of purpose and drives to our demoralised cadres.” The letter further read, “These resignations will help strengthen Rahul Gandhi’s hand and give him free rein to make the systemic changes he has envisioned. I believe that any leader who does not resign has put their personal gain over the party’s collective growth.”

According to Bajwa, mass resignation will help the Party to start with fresh motives and agendas and will also help Rahul Gandhi show his leadership skills as an individual.

Pratap Singh Bajwa, a Member of Parliament (MP) of the Lok Sabha, also resigned as the Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Department of the INC.

Apart from Pratap Singh Bajwa, Revanth Reddy, Vivek Tankha and Kamal Nath, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, also expressed their wish to quit from their posts.

In Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot, the President of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC,) wants to resign.

However, an official announcement regarding the resignation of Kamal Nath and Sachin Pilot is yet to come, as finding suitable candidates for their posts is not an easy task.

Kamal Nath, the CM of Madhya Pradesh, Bhupesh Baghel, the CM of Odisha, Ashok Gehlot, the CM of Rajasthan, Captain Amarinder Singh, the CM of Punjab and V. Narayanaswamy, the CM of Puducherry, will be present at the INC’s CM meeting.

Stay tuned for further updates.
