The Andhra Pradesh Government announced an extension to the ongoing night curfew in the State.
Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) reviewed the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus situation in the State. After considering the current situation, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) extended the curfew till the 21st of August.
The YSRCP President also directed the authorities to enforce a strict curfew to prevent the virus from further spread.
The imposed curfew would be in effect from 10:00 P.M., to 6:00 A.M. The State Government issued a Government Order to this effect on the 15th of August. The order was issued by Mr. Anil Kumar Singhal, the Principal Secretary of the Health, Medical and Family Welfare of Andhra Pradesh.
Mr. A.K. Singhal said, “Following Covid appropriate behaviour is a must at all congregations. Any violation will attract action as per the Disaster Management Act and the IPC.”
The Andhra Pradesh Police, district authorities and collectors were asked to ensure everyone follows the COVID-19 guidelines and implemented curfew.
Anyone found violating the guidelines would have to face strict action and consequences including hefty fines. The action would be taken under the Disaster Management Act 2005, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC.) In addition, the Andhra Pradesh Government also imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) restricting gathering of more than 4 people at a place. Initially the imposed night curfew was till the 14th of August, which now would be in effect till the 21st of August.
Meanwhile, in Andhra Pradesh there are 17,865 active cases till date with 1,506 new COVID-19 cases.
