Dr. Om Shrivastava, a renowned infectious disease specialist, who was also a member of the Mumbai COVID-19 taskforce, died on Tuesday night, the 27th of September.

Dr. Om Shrivastava was being treated at a private hospital in Mumbai and died after prolonged illness.  Notably, in April, Dr. Om Shrivastava, 55 years old, was hospitalised in April after suffering a heart attack.  Since then he was on life support and ventilator, undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Upon hearing the demise of Dr. Om Shrivastava, the COVID-19 task force member and endocrinologist Dr. Shashank Joshi said, “Deeply sad to lose a close friend, a colleague and a fellow researcher Dr Shrivastav. He was a thinker, teacher and clinician.  We all pray to the almighty that he attains Moksha.  We pray for his family to bear this immense loss.”

In addition, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) executive health officer Dr. MangalaGomare said, “I came in his contact when I was incharge of the Kasturba Hospital’s epidemiology cell.  During Covid, he was part of the death investigation committee.  He was one of the pioneers we have lost way ahead of time.”

Former Maharashtra Minister and the Shiv Sena leader Mr. Aaditya Thackeray also condoled Dr. Om Shrivastava’s demise.  Mr. Aditya Thackeray wrote, “Saddened to hear about the demise of Dr Om Shrivastav.  In his role as the member of State COVID Task Force, he rose up to serve the people in midst of the pandemic.  My heartfelt condolences are with his family and loved ones.”

Meanwhile, the last rites of Dr. Om Shrivastava is likely to be held on the 28th of September, Wednesday.
