COVID-19 Updates: India Records 50,000 Plus Deaths, Over 26 Lakhs Infected Of COVID-19

On the 17th of August, with 58,000 new Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases and 941 deaths, India registered 50,000 plus deaths and 26 lakhs positive cases.In India there are 26,47,663 positive cases, of which 6,76,900 are active cases,19,19,842 recovered/discharged and 50,921 death cases till the 17th of August. 

The data of the COVID-19 cases of India has been confirmed by the Union Health Ministry.

In the past few days, this is the first time India reported less than 60,000 new cases.

In addition, the recovery rate from the Novel Coronavirus in India stood at 72.51%.

Despite being the third worst hit nation from the Coronavirus, India is performing better than other countries, especially with a population of 133 crores.

India is the third worst COVID-19 affected country. Other two countries are the United States of America (U.S.A.,) and Brazil.

Acording to the data shared by the World Health Organization, the United States of America recorded nearly 54 lakhs cases and Brazil has approximately 33 lakh cases.

Meanwhile, despite being one of the most populated nations with 133 crore people, India recorded nearly 28 and 7 lakhs less than the U.S.A., and Brazil, respectively.

It took about 6.5 months for India to cross 26 lakh cases.

In May, India had 1 lakh cases, but in July, with aggressive testing and increased cases, the tally rose from six lakh cases at the beginning of July to roughly 16 lakh cases by the 31st of July.

About 10 lakh cases have been recorded in August.

In addition, India tested approximately 3 crore samples till date. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) a total of 3,00,41,400 samples have been tested till date.

Approximately, 7,31,697 samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

On the 17th of August, the Union Health Ministry took to Twitter and said, “Focussing on timely and aggressive testing, India has exceeded 3 crore tests.”

On the other hand, the ten states that have logged the highest number of cases are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana and Gujarat.
