The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government is all set to use drone services to deliver vaccines against the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)
With this, Telangana would be the first state in the country to start drone services for delivering COVID-19 vaccines across the State.
For this, the Central Government also gave permission to the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Government. Recently after receiving a go ahead from the Civil Aviation Ministry, Google backed delivery application, Dunzo would be beginning the pilot project of the drone services. Besides Dunzo, TechEagle is also going to deliver vials through their drones. The project is a collaboration of the TRS Government and the World Economic Forum.
The first trials would begin at Vikarabad area hospital to other public health centres (PHCs.) A nodal officer would supervise the entire operation and once successful, it would be launched on a wide scale. On experimental basis, the drone services would be ferrying a total of 10,000 vials (COVID-19 vaccines) from a central location in Telangana to primary health centres nearby in rural areas.
The Centre said that the grant of these permissions is given to achieve the dual objectives of faster vaccine delivery and improved healthcare access by ensuring primary healthcare delivery at the citizen’s doorstep. It would also limit human exposure to the Novel Coronavirus congested or COVID-19 prone areas through aerial delivery.
