In order to vaccinate high risk category people with ease, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) decided to issue an e coupon for the special vaccination drive against the Wuhan virus.

The GHMC officials chakled out a different strategy to ensure people belonging to the high risk category receive vaccination against the Wuhan virus also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.) The newly formed high risk groups include workers of LPG agencies, people at petrol bunks, grocery store shopkeepers, journalists, street vendors, fertilizer shopkeepers, delivery boys, cab drivers, auto rickshaw drivers, and others. The special drive to vaccinate high risk categorised people was launched by the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government. Under the special drive initiative, the State Medical Department would vaccinate approximately 7,80,000 people against the Wuhan virus.

The civic body officials who were distributing the vaccination coupons by visiting stalls and markets, now started to provide e coupons for vaccination. As of now, the decision to give e coupons is being executed only in GHMC limits, areas including Serilingampally circle and parts of Khairatabad zone. The e coupon strategy is a pilot project and if successful, would be extended in other parts of Hyderabad.

These e coupons would be provided to the beneficiaries under the high risk category through the government application/portal after registering. The selected GHMC staff would identify people under high risk by going around the grocery shops and markets, vegetables, fruits and meat shops. These staff would shortlist the beneficiaries, following which their details would be entered in the portal and they would receive text messages. These messages would have an e coupon, which the individual needs to show at the vaccination centre to take the doses.

According to sources, on the 30th of May, a total of 516 e coupons were issued in the GHMC Serilingampally circle. Of the total, 464 people turned up at the vaccination centre and received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination.

In the GHMC limit, approximately 22,603 administered the vaccination against the Wuhan virus on the 30th of May. With this, Telangana becomes the first State to focus on such high potential spreaders of COVID-19 virus, due to their jobs.

The new special drive which started from the 28th of May, is being supervised by the Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar.
