India COVID-19 Cases Below 20,000 For 24th Day With 13k New Cases, Recovery At 98 %

On the 30th of January, India reported 13,083 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

About 78 % of the daily new cases are being reported from seven states including Kerala, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.

This is the 24th consecutive day, India recorded below 20,000 new COVID-19 cases.

With low single day positive cases, India reported death toll below 200.

In the past 24 hours, the death toll due to the Novel Coronavirus was 137 death cases and 14,808 people discharged.

The figures of the Novel Coronavirus were confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on the morning of the 30th of January.

According to the updated figure, India has 1,07,33,131 positive cases, of which 1,04,09,160 people were recovered, 1,54,147 died and only 1,69,824 people are infected with the Novel Coronavirus infection.

The updated data is available on the official website of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.)

In addition, the recovery rate of COVID-19 increased to 96.98 %, while the fatality rate is down to 1.44 %.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) also confirmed 7,56,329 tests being conducted on the 29th of January, taking the cumulative total of samples tested for COVID-19 to 19,58,37,408 till date.

On the other hand, the Central Government kickstarted a vaccination drive for COVID-19 across India.

The drive which started from the 16th of January, so far vaccinated nearly 28 lakh people. Eleven states performed better in vaccination coverage of the healthcare workers and have covered more than 30 % of the targeted beneficiaries. This includes Lakshadweep Islands, which covered 83.4 % of the targeted beneficiaries, followed by 50.70 % by Odisha, 50 % by Haryana and 48.30 %by Andaman and Nicobar.

The vaccination drive would continue in a phased manner and would vaccinate the entire population of India.

The two India made vaccines which are being administered to Indians are the Hyderabad bases Bharat Biotech International Private Limited’s COVAXIN and the Serum Institute of India’s Covisheild.

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) approved the two vaccines for Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA.)
