The Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases stood at 1.20 crores in India with 68,020 new COVID-19 cases. 

On the 29th of March, the Union Health Ministry confirmed 68,020 new cases, 32,231 recoveries/discharged cases and 291 deaths.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) website, India has 1,20,39,644 COVID-19 cases. Of these, 1,13,55,993 recovered/discharged cases, 5,21,808 active cases and 1,61,843 deceased cases.

This is the 8th consecutive day India reported more than 40,000 cases.

In addition, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) conducted 9,13,319 samples for COVID-19 on the 28th of March. The total samples tested so far stood at 24,18,64,161.

Maharashtra continues to be the biggest contributor of COVID-19 cases. In Maharashtra, a total of 40,414 new COVID-19 cases were reported with 108 deaths.

Meanwhile, India is conducting a nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive. So far 6,05,30,435 people have been given India made COVID-19 vaccination.

In addition, the Government of India (GoI) also allowed citizens above 45 years of age to take two India made COVID-19 vaccines. The announced development in the ongoing vaccination drive would be in effect from the 1st of April.

The countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on the 16th of January with healthcare workers getting inoculated and vaccination of the frontline workers started from the 2nd of February.
