India on the 5th of December reported 36,652 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
Besides 36,652 new COVID-19 infections, the nation recorded 512 deaths and 42,553 recoveries/discharged cases in the past 24 hours.
The number of figures were confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on the 5th of December.
With the aforementioned figure, India has a total of 96,08,211 positive cases, of which 4,09,689 are active cases, 90,58,822 recovered/discharged cases and 1,39,700 deceased cases.
In addition, the recovery rate stands at 94.28 % while the fatality rate is at 1.45 %.
The Union Ministry said, “Demonstrating a landmark achievement, India’s active cases have fallen below 4.2 lakh mark. The recovered cases have leaped past 90 lakh mark.”
Speaking about the worst COVID-19 hit place in the nation, Maharashtra is the worst hit State with 1,842,587 active cases till date.
According to sources, Over 78 % of the daily new cases are contributed by ten States and union territories like Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Haryana, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, as per the Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR) India conducted a total of 14,58,85,512 sample tests for COVID-19 including 11,57,763 samples tested in the past 24 hours.
