On the 1st of January 2021, India recorded 20,036 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
On the 1st of January, the Ministry of Union Health confirmed the new cases and updated the data on the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.)
According to the updated data, India recorded 20,036 positive cases, 23,181 recovered/discharged cases and 256 deaths.
With this, India has 1,02,86,710 positive cases, of which 2,54,254 are active cases, 98,83,461 are recovered/discharged cases and 1,48,994 deceased.
In addition, with 3,509 new infections, Maharashtra remains the top Indian State with the highest number of the positive Novel Coronavirus cases with 19,32,112 cases.
However, in terms of active COVID-19 cases Kerala has the highest number of cases with 65,202, followed by Maharashtra (52,902,) Uttar Pradesh (14,155,) West Bengal (11,985) and Chhattisgarh (11,435.)
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on the 1st of January confirmed 10,62,420 tests being conducted in the past 24 hours. With this, India so far conducted 17,31,11,694 tests of the Novel Coronavirus.
In addition, India has a recovery rate of 96.83 % and fatality rate below 1.48 %.
