Telangana’s Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases continue to rise, making the situation worse in the State.
In the past 24 hours, the State reported the highest single day surge of COVID-19 cases in 2021. With 5,926 new COVID-19 cases, Telangana crossed 3.61 lakh of total COVID-19 cases. On the 20th of April at 8:00 P.M., the Telangana Health Department released a media bulletin and confirmed 5,926 new cases, 18 deaths and 2,209 recovered/discharged cases.
Of the total fresh cases, the highest number of cases were reported from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) with 793 new cases, followed by Medchal-Malkajgiri recorded with 488 cases, Ranga Reddy with 455 and Sangareddy with 184 COVID-19 cases. In addition, of the remaining districts, Nizamabad reported 444 new cases. Of the 33 districts, 25 districts reported more than 100 new COVID-19 cases and the remaining districts reported more than 400-500 fresh cases. The districts which recorded relatively lower numbers of COVID-19 cases saw a huge jump in terms of cases in the last one week.
For example, the number of daily cases jumped five times in Khammam from 59 a week ago to 247. In Wanaparthy, the numbers went up from 29 to 121, seeing an eight-fold jump, in Mancheriyal also it went up from 51 to 188 within a week.
Meanwhile, a total of 1.22 lakh samples were tested for COVID-19 in the State on Tuesday.
With this, Telangana has now completed conducting 1.19 crore sample tests.
Meanwhile, to curb the spread of the virus, the Telangana Government led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao imposed a 10 day night curfew.
