The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) postponed the civil services preliminary examination to the 10th of October.

The exams for the civil service posts, including Indian Administrative Service (IAS,) Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) were scheduled on the 27th of June. However, due to the second wave of the Wuhan virus, (Novel Coronavirus) the exam has been rescheduled. The exams for the aforementioned posts are conducted in three stages, Preliminary, Mains and Interview.

The preliminary exams for the civil services were scheduled on the 27th of June.

On the 13th of May, the UPSC commission issued a statement regarding the same. The issued statement read, “Due to the prevailing conditions caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Union Public Service Commission has deferred the civil services (preliminary) examination, 2021, which was scheduled to be held on 27th June 2021. Now, this examination will be held on 10th October 2021.”

Besides Civil preliminary exams, the UPSC also postponed several other exams due to the ongoing crisis. Some of the exams include interviews of the UPSC CSE 2020 (earlier scheduled from 26.04.2021 to 18.06.2021) are postponed till further announcement and the Combined Medical Services Examination, 2021 scheduled for 05-May 2021 is also postponed till the further notice.

In 2020 also, due to the Novel Coronavirus (Wuhan Virus) the UPSC Civil Exams which were scheduled in August, later held on the 4th of October.
