In the wake of the rising number of the Wuhan Virus (Novel Coronavirus) the West Bengal Government announced complete lockdown in the State. The announced lockdown with additional restrictions would be imposed from the 16th of May till the 30th of May. 

The decision was taken to curtail the second wave of the deadly Wuhan virus in India and West Bengal.

On the 15th of May, the Chief Secretary (CS) of West Bengal, issued an order regarding the extended lockdown.

The CS also announced some additional restrictions given the surge in COVID-19 cases.

All private offices, schools, colleges would remain closed, whereas, bazaars, markets selling vegetables, fruits, milk and bread would only remain open from 7:00 A.M., to 10:00 A.M

As for the local trains, metro services, inter-state bus/train services, Inland Waterways, would also remain closed.

Additionally, Intra state goods trucks’ movement is also restricted except for essential supplies. Private cars, taxis, auto movement to remain closed.

No movement of people or vehicles is from 9:00 P.M., to 5:00 A.M. Bank working hours would be from 10:00 A.M., to 2:00 P.M. The West Bengal Government is imposing a full lockdown from tomorrow in the state for the next 15 days. However, the State Government led by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) named it as a partial lockdown with complete restrictions. 

Goods carriers remain suspended except for medical and food services.

All political, entertainment, cultural, and religious gatherings are prohibited.

All industries and manufacturing units will remain closed except for food and medical supplies and medical packaging services.

All sweet and meat shops would be open from 10:00 A.M., to 5:00 P.M.

Private taxis, Uber and vehicles would be allowed only for emergency purposes.

Medical shops would be functional as usual.

The imposed lockdown is an extension to existing restrictions and would continue till the 30th of May.

Meanwhile, currently, West Bengal has 10,94,802 positive cases of the Novel Coronavirus, of which 1,31,792 are active cases.
