Mr. Vikas Fhatak, popular as Hindustani Bhau, was arrested by the Mumbai police on the 1st of February, Tuesday.

According to sources, the Dharavi Police said, Fhatak, a social media influencer, allegedly instigated students to protest against Maharashtra Education Minister Ms. Varsha Gaikwad.  Notably, the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra Government announced to conduct offline examinations for class X and XII, amid the declining number of Wuhan virus cases.

However, the students after seeing a video of Hindustani Bhau (Mr. Vikas Fhatak) staged a protest outside Ms. Varsha Gaikwad’s residence.  In a post on Instagram and YouTube, Mr. Vikas said, “In these two years, many people died because of Covid.  Till now, families are recovering from the shock.  And now the new drama of Omicron has started.  What is this?  The government is urging people to remain indoors.  They why take offline exams of the students. (sic).”

Called by the YouTuber, the students gathered and staged a protest, vandalized properties, and created ruckus.  The situation worsened, resulting in batton and lathi charges, with the involvement of the Dharavi Police.

The Maharashtra Health Minister Mr. Rajesh Tope said the decision to take offline exams has been taken after careful consideration.  In addition, the State Education Department would take proper measures to ensure the safety of the students.  In addition, the Health Minister appealed to the protesting students to cooperate with the government in conducting in-person exams.

Meanwhile, responding to a query, the Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone V. Pranay Ashok said,  “The action will be taken as per the law against anyone responsible for instigating students.”

The police have registered a complaint against relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)
