Every year large quantities of food went to waste after the Oscars ceremony. This year, thanks to Indian origin actress Freida Pinto all the food that was unused after the ceremony was used to feed 800 hungry people.
Mashable, a news daily reported that the “Slumdog Millionaire” actress collaborated with Copia, a non-profit organization and handled the responsibility of distributing the excess food from Oscars to different communities that are in dire need of food. The event is held at Los Angeles and Freida Pinto, along with the Organization helped in feeding 800 hungry people.
Freida also took to the social media site Instagram, and posted about her partnership with Copia. She wrote how 800 people have been fed from the excess food. In the past too several such good deeds have been taken up by different organizations at different events.
Also, Chef Wolfgang Puck who prepared food for the Governor’s Ball, the Oscars and its after party for the past 23 years have been a part of Chefs to End Hunger from last six years, which is another non-profit organization. They distribute the excess food from the Oscars to restaurants or shelter homes in different areas near Los Angeles.
In 2017, the menu at the Governor’s Ball was made up of chicken pot pie, potatoes with caviar, Oscar-shaped matzo crackers, gold-dusted popcorn and a lot more. All the food that went unused and generally is wasted after such big events are being distributed to the needy.
