Karan Johar’s Breakup with Bebo

Just a few moments ahead of the release of his autobiography, An “Unsuitable Boy,” some more excerpts have come out but this tine concerning the ace director, Karan Johar, and the glam queen of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor Khan.

The new readings from the book talk about Karan Johar’s tiff with the Khan bahu way back in 2002 when “Mujhse Dosti Karoge” had just released. Riding on the success, she had asked for more money from Karan for his venture “Kal Ho Na Ho.” The part eventually went to the bubbly Priety Zinta but the friendship of Karan-Kareena went through a cold phase.

Writing in his book, Karan said, “My first problem was with Kareena. She asked for too much money and we had some kind of a fallout at that time. ”Mujhse Dosti Karoge!” had just released, directed by Kunal Kohli. She said, ‘Aditya Chopra’s assistant Kunal Kohli has made this flop, so Karan Johar’s assistant, Nikhil Advis is not to be trusted either’.”

The 44 year old also spoke about other reasons behind the argument, “The weekend of ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge’s release, I offered her ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, and she asked for the same money that Shah Rukh Khan was getting. I said, ‘Sorry’.” This led to both the celebrities not speaking to each other for almost nine months! It was only after Karan’s father Yash Johar was hospitalized due to an illness that Kareena called him one fine day and broke her stoic silence.

Karan wrote, “We were releasing ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ in November. We had shot the film in June, July, August and in September I had to shoot the songs, make the promos and so on. So, I had to head back, while my father continued the treatment in New York. That was the time Kareena Kapoor called me. It was August. We had not spoken for nine months. She called and said, ‘I heard about Yash uncle.’ She got really emotional on the phone, and she said, ‘I love you and I am so sorry I haven’t been in touch. Don’t worry’.”

That melted the heart of K Jo and the two friends were back together acting for many more movies like “Kurbaan,” “Ek Main Aur Ek Tu,” etc. Recently, Kareen also featured on Karan Johar’s seventh season of Koffee with Karan, while preggers with the now born baby Taimur. Kareena appeared with another Kapoor daughter, Sonam.
