Mumbai: The 17th Jio MAMI film festival opened on Thursday in Mumbai. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the fest and called it a tribute to the industry which provides employment to millions of people.
At the event, he said, “I consider it an honour to be given the privilege to open the festival. Cinema and cricket are like two religions in our country. I congratulate the team behind this film festival, which is a great tribute to the industry which provides employment to approximately 1.4 million people.”
“This fest has brought filmmakers from across the globe under one roof. I’d like them to come and make their films in the city,” he added.
The star-studded opening ceremony was a grand affair. Many stars were seen glittering at the event. Alia Bhatt, Siddharth Malhotra, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia, Huma Qureshi, Twinkle Khanna, Irrfan Khan, Manoj Bajpayee, Kalki Koechlin, Vidya Balan, Hrithik Roshan, Dia Mirza, Abhishek Bachchan, Radhika Apte, Katrina Kaif and others were spotted at the red carpet of festival. Mukesh and Nita Ambani also graced the occasion. Starlet Kalki Koechlin impressed the B-towners with her humour as she hosted the evening.
