Sony TV, on the 16th of February, decided to sack Navjot Singh Sidhu from the popular comedy show, The Kapil Sharma Show.

The channel discussed the matter with the production house and asked for Navjot Singh Sidhu to be replaced immediately.

An anonymous source said, “The channel has told the production house to sack Sidhu. It’s not a temporary thing. They are going to get him out. In fact, even in the past, during the MeToo movement, when there were allegations against Anu Malik, the channel took a stand. The channel has shot a couple of episodes with Archana Puran Singh and most probably, she will be the one replacing Sidhu.”

Navjot Singh Sidhu, with regard to the Pulwama terror attack, made a comment, which increased the anger amongst the people who are in an emotional state regarding the loss of the 40 CRPF soldiers.

Mr. Sidhu said, “Nations cannot be held responsible for the dastardly acts of terrorists. The terrorists do not have deen, mazhab (sect and religion). There are good, the bad and the ugly. Every institution has them. Every nation has them. The ugly need to be punished. But individuals cannot be blamed for the dastardly act.”

People took to Twitter and boycotted Sidhu and Sony TV, with #BoycottSidhu and #BoycottSony.

However, the statement was meant to be a speech of condemnation in context of the Pulwama attack, but the situation is termed as a wrong time to share such speech in context of Pulwama attack and Pakistan.

According to the Constitution of India, the right to speech is something which allows anyone to speak out their mind, whereas the right to action is also a major consequence, one should be prepared to face.

The sources at Sony TV said, “The episodes weren’t shot keeping this incident in mind but now the channel will be taking her on board fully. Some communication and closures need to happen and will then be finalised.”

People on Twitter, who were flooding the platform with their demand to boycott Sidhu, finally achieved their agenda, as the channel fired Sidhu.

After his exit from The Kapil Sharma Show, Twitter is flooded with posts and tweets demanding to sack Sidhu from the Cabinet Ministry, with #SackSidhuFromPunjabCabinet.
