Vidya Balan: I will not return my national award

Mumbai: Actress Vidya Balan said that she will not return her national award. She added that the honour was bestowed on her by the nation but not by the government, so she will not give it back. The actress made the statement as the film personalities returning their national awards in  solidarity with FTII students.

At an event, Vidya Balan said, “This honour (the award) is by the nation and not the government. So I do not want to return it.”

The bankable actress of the Bollywood won the national award for delivering brilliant performance in the film titled “The Dirty Picture” in 2012. The 37-year-old actress also said that she was not interested in politics and would fail miserably at it.

Against the growing intolerance in the country and in solidarity with FTII students, movie makers Dibakar Banerjee and Anand Patwardhan returned their national awards. They said that they returned the awards in view of the apathy displayed by the government in addressing the issues raised by the FTII students.
