A pilot was killed, on the 19th of February, after two aircrafts of the Surya Kiran, the aerobatic team of the Indian Air Force (IAF,) crashed at the Yelahanka Airbase in Bengaluru.

The incident happened around 11:50 A.M., when three pilots inside the Surya Kiran Hawk jets were practicing air stunts, ahead of an upcoming aero exhibition.

The aero exhibition, known as the Aero Indian Show, is scheduled to be held from the 20th February to the 24th of February.

According to sources, the two aircrafts collided with each other, which killed one of the pilots and left the other two with minor injuries. There was also thick fire coming out of the crafts, following which the police rescued the pilots.

M.N. Reddi, the Director General Police of the Fire Services, rushed to the spot and said, “There were three pilots, one has died, two are safe with injuries.”

Nirmala Sitharaman, the Defence Minister of India, also reached the spot. When asked for her comments regarding the incident, she said, “I’m aware of it (incident,)” and refused to say anything further.

The Aero India Show, a five day event, will be a major trade exhibition for the aerospace and defense industries, along with having public air shows.
