In a shocking case, the CID have identified as many as 500 fake doctors practising in government hospitals and private clinics.
An official from the CID has revealed that seven to eight fake institutes are also involved in this large scale racket.
The official said, “Fake doctors are present in sizeable numbers in government and private hospitals all over the state. We have information that around seven to eight fake institutes in the state are involved in the business apart from other such establishments in neighbouring states.”
Nirmal Maji, State Medical Council president has reported that a list of the accused have been made and will be given to the police to take action.
The CID has succeeded in arresting around six of the fake doctors from different parts in the state. Among the arrested are Ajay Tiwary and Naren Pandey who were part of two renowned private hospitals in the state.
The officials raided the office of Alternative Medical Council of Calcutta at Barasat in North 24 Parganas district. They seized a huge number of fake documents with fake mark sheets, fake records of students of MBBS courses.
The CID has also reported that the fake institutes sold the fake documents at a hefty price.
Maji reported, “The fake doctors have been practicing since the days of the Left Front government. Their contacts had helped them practice as doctors.”
The medical council directed the hospitals in the state to provide them with all the names of registered doctors to help them list out all the doctors practicing in the state.
The police have been able to track down the fake doctors with the registration numbers. The fake institutes were providing the fake doctors with old registration numbers that were earlier used by doctors who have expired or not in the profession anymore.
Maji also said, “If a complaint is found genuine, we will get an FIR lodged.”
