Chennai: On Thursday, relief and rescue operations were initiated in the flood-hit areas of the city and the sub urban regions. Ever since the heavy downpour created havoc in the city and the neighbouring districts,the death toll rose to 269.
Heavy rains affected many regions of the Tamil Nadu and crippled the normal life of people. Transportation system and other services were suspended. Flight operations are likely to begin from the Rajali naval air station in Arakkonam, according to Civil Aviation Ministry. Till Saturday, Southern Railway cancelled all inter and intra state train services and the airport operations is expected to resume on Monday.
