Chennai Floods: Heavy rains create havoc

Chennai: On Tuesday, heavy rains created havoc and hit the normal life of the Chennai. Streets of the city were flooded with water and the fresh rains once again crippled the life especially in the low-lying areas. The heavy downpour caused traffic jams from Taramani to Tondiarpet. It also collapsed the transportation system and several trains were delayed and cancelled. The government of Tamil Nadu declared a holiday for schools in the city and the neighbouring Kancheepuram district. The government has also deployed 2 columns of the Army with 4 NDRF teams.

 


The people were confined to their homes with the increasing water level on the roads. Many planes were also cancelled and passengers are stranded at the airport. A flood alert has been issued along the banks of the Cooum and Adyar. In the district of Kancheepuram, three lakes were breached due to the rainfall and inflows. Rescue operations are underway in Urapakkam and Tambaram.
