Chennai-Mangalore Train Derailed, Over 42 Injuried

Tamil Nadu: Over 42 people were injured after six coaches of the Chennai-Mangalore Express derailed in Tamil Nadu early Friday about 2 am. There were no immediate reports of fatalities from the accident that occurred at Virudhanchalam about 230km south of Chennai.

The injured were given first aid at the Virudhachalam government hospital. Government arranged special buses for the passengers travelling to Trichy and Salem. The derailed train was later detached and was sent to station.
This is the third train accident in just about a month. Eight trains from the southern districts were delayed after this train accident.

India has the world’s fourth largest railway network that ferries more than 23 million passengers every day, but infrastructure is poorly maintained and accidents have become common.
