At Famous Chowk in Sangvi, Pune, an 18 year old boy snuck a friends car out for a ride only to ram into a teenager on a scooter. The police have reported neither the driver nor the rider had a driving license. The 15 year old on the scooter has been identified as Om Pravin Deshmukh from Karmala Taluka in Solapur district.

The unnamed 18 year old was arrested by the Sangvi police in the early hours of Tuesday but was later let off on bail in the evening.

Amit Shete Sub Inspector, spoke to the media and said Om Pravin Deshmukh had arrived in Sangvi just ten days ago to live with a maternal uncle. He was a class X student who went out on Monday evening to buy snacks when the accident happened. Deshmukh was sadly not wearing a helmet.

The alleged perpetrator is from New Sangvi and went to Adarshnagar to visit a friend. At the friend’s house, he noticed his friend’s car with the key in the ignition. The college boy started the car and his friend rushed to stop him. Shete also reported, “Assuming that the friend would not let him take the car, the youth accelerated. At the turn of the road, the student lost control due to the high speed and knocked Om down.”

The collision was bad, flinging Om in the air and then he was dragged along with the car for a distance. Om died on the spot but the student in the car still didn’t stop the car.
