Earthquake strikes off coast of eastern Indonesia

Jakarta: A powerful earthquake with magnitude 7.1 jolted the coast of eastern Indonesia on Wednesday. The Australian government’s Bureau of Meteorology said that there is no threat of a tsunami. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties in the quake.

According to the US Geological Survey, the strong quake hit southeast of Amahai, a town on Seram. It was centered in the Banda Sea at a depth of 33.9 kilometres. More details are awaited.
