Election Commission Announces Gujarat Assembly Election Dates

The Election Commission announced Assembly elections in Gujarat would be held in two phases. The first phase will happen on 9th December for 89 assembly seats and 14th December for 93 seats. The votes from the two phases will both be counted on the 18th December.

The political party that secures a total of 92 seats will win the Gujarat elections. Back in 2012 Gujarat elections, BJP managed to secure 116 seats making them the ruling party in the State.

The poll panel said that a total of 4.33 crores people are eligible to vote in Gujarat. There will be 50,128 polling booths set up with electronic voting machines and VVPAT paper trail machines. VVPAT is a machine that prints out a slip with the symbol of the party for which the person has voted.

The Election Commission also announced the poll dates for the Himachal Pradesh assembly. The 66 seat assembly election will take place on the 12th of October.
