On July 1, the Election Commission will launch a special drive to enroll new voters by collaborating with Facebook. A notification on Facebook of ‘Voter registration reminder’ will be sent to the people who are eligible to vote.
The reminder will be sent in 13 different languages that include English, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali, Urdu, Assamese, Marathi and Oriya.
People will be directed to the national voters’ services portal (www.nvsp.in) by clicking on the ‘register now’ button. This will guide them through the registration process.
“I am pleased to announce that the Election Commission is launching a special drive to enroll left out electors, with a special focus on first time electors. This is a step towards fulfillment of the motto of EC `No Voter to be Left Behind’,” Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said.
“I urge all eligible citizens to enroll and vote i.e., recognize your right and perform your duty,” he added.
“I am sure that this initiative will strengthen EC’s enrollment campaign and encourage future voters to participate in the electoral process and become responsible citizens,” Zaidi said.
This will be the first time to use Facebook to enroll new voters across India.
