According to reports, “More than 50 students were hospitalized on Saturday after they fell ill due to a gas leak from a depot in southeast Delhi’s Tughlakabad area.” This number has increased since then and reached 100 students being hospitalized.

The incident occurred on Saturday in the early hours at the depot that was located near the Railway Colony. Upon receiving a call at 7:35 A.M., the fire service rushed to the spot. A senior fire official said that the source of the gas leak is still being investigated.

Speaking to a popular news daily, the vice principal of Rani Jhansi Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya said,”Some students complained of irritation in eyes and throat due to the gas leak. Around 50 students have been hospitalized.” Also, Centralized Accident Trauma Service ambulances were rushed to the spot of the incident and the school.

The Deputy CM of Delhi, Manish Sisodia tweeted about the incident hours later and asked magisterial inquiry into the incident. After visiting the hospital where the girls were appointed, he said, “I spoke to the girls and the doctors, the condition of the students is normal.”

It is unsure whether the vehicle that leaked gas was still present at the depot or left the place. An in-depth inquiry is being done about the incident on orders of the Deputy CM.
