Kerala Floods: Emirates Will Carry 175 Tons Of Relief Cargo

The Dubai based Emirates will carry 175 tons of relief cargo to Kerala which was devastated by floods this month. Over a dozen flights will be sent to the state with relief goods.

The goods were donated by a number of organizations including UAE based businesses. The relief will be extended to the areas affected the most like Thiruvananthapuram.

The Emirates Airline took to Twitter to announce this development. The tweet read, “Emirates SkyCargo joins the UAE community in their support of the people of Kerala, India by transporting over 175 tons of flood relief cargo.#UAEsupportsKerala.”

Blankets, lifesaving boats and dry food products are the main goods which will be given to local organizations. The local organizations are the real heroes of the Kerala floods. They have been spending weeks providing relief to the victims from the devastating floods.   

The State is facing the worst flood in more than a century. The entire country has come together to extend their help to Kerala. Around 357 deaths have been reported due to the flood. The State incurred a loss of Rs. 19,512 crores.

The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi announced Rs. 500 crores for flood relief in Kerala. The Telangana Government announced Rs. 25 crores as relief for the worst flood in Kerala history.

Apart from the 500 crores, Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced Rs. 100 crores to Kerala. PM Modi also stated Rs. 1 lakh would be given as compensation to families who lost family members in the flood. An additional Rs. 50,000 would be given to those seriously injured.
